As part of developing a sustainable coastal protection plan, KERI has been directed to carry out study regarding ‘tetrapots’ with different varieties of mangroves in association with KFRI.

Chronology of Events

1 03/06/2021 KERI arranged an internal online refresher training program for the engineers of Coastal Engineering Field Studies on the ‘Basics of Coastal Engineering’.
2 03/06/2021 KERI officials had a discussion with the Director and concerned scientists of KFRI on the subject topic.
3 07/06/2021 KERI arranged a brief session on ‘Oceanographic field measurements’ by Mr. Neeraj Prakash, Project Scientist, National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai.
4 09/06/2021 KERI organized a talk on “Introduction to Ocean Engineering” by Prof. Balaji Ramakrishnan, IIT Bombay.         view flyer 
5 11/06/2021 KERI conducted online discussion with KFRI officials regarding ‘Coastal Protection using Tetrapots” with different varieties of mangroves and other sustainbale measures with special emphasis on project proposal submission in a collaborative manner.

7 06/07/2021 An intimation has sent to the director KFRI for further planning regarding the pilot project of placing tetrapots with mangroves at a suitable location of coastal line of Thrissur eg. Vadanappilly.
8 30/09/2021 A joint site inspection by KERI and KFRI team along with LSGD authorities and Major Irrigation officials is conducted at Vadanappilly in Thalikkulam panchayath, Puthankadappuram in Chavakkad Muncipality and Periyambalam in Punnayoorkkulam panchayath.
9 01/10/2021 A joint inspection by KERI and KFRI along with Major Irrigation officials is conducted at seacoast of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram Districts.
