An organisation spearheading various R&D projects in the traditional segment of Coir, was established in 1994, under the name C-DOCT to cater the varied needs of the coir sector of Kerala. It is registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1956. NCRMI have been conducting studies for the development of new coir technologies in collaboration with similar research organisations across the country and even at the International level.
“National Coir Research & Management Institute (NCRMI)” to facilitate comprehensive research on coconut fibre and allied products. This Institute would eventually become a centre of excellence for R&D, consultancy and knowledge propagation in the coir sector.
The organisation is controlled by the Governing body consisting of 21 members who are eminent personalities with proven track record in relevant fields of R&D, Industry, Academic etc. The chairman of the Governing body is the Hon’ble Minister for Finance and Coir.
Besides the Governing body, the State Level R&D advisory Committee of NCRMI engaged in conceiving, formulating and implementing different projects in the respective field. Both the above committees have successfully implemented various projects eventually benefiting this traditional sector.
