About the Division

The Design and Development Centre in National Coir Research and Management Institute (NCRMI) is equipped with an art in-house machine shop & design centre to address all R&D mechanical project needs. The approach allows the institute to take on a single point of accountability, allowing for improved control over the manufacturing process and a shorter total lead time for the demand. The goal of the centre is to develop and test innovative coir machines as well as technology transfer. The design and development centre act as a one-stop shop for all product design and development activities for the coir industry as a destination for designing and prototyping.

Fibre Extraction Machine Electric

The machine is intended to extract coir fibre from green and dry coconut husks with the help of a Crusher Unit. It has a processing capacity of 6000 coconut husks per day (Working hrs: 8) and production capacity of 480 Kg of fibre per day (Working hrs :8)

Low Cost Power Loom

The machine is developed to weave various GSM geo-textile and SK1 mattings up to 2.1 meter width at a speed of 1.5 second per weft. It ensures weft passing and avoids the chances of weft missing. It has production capacity on SK1 Matting; 100M /day (Working hrs: 8) and in GeoTextile Matting; 210 M (900GSM)/day (Working hrs: 8)

Mobile Tender Coconut Crusher

The Tender coconut crusher developed by NCRMI used for the processing of tender coconut husks. The machine converts coconut husks including its shells into crushed form which can be directly used in soil conditioning purposes. The machine is connected with a tractor for easy transportation, and is named Mobile Tender Coconut Crusher. It has a processing speed of 4000-4800 husks per day.

Pneumatic Geo Textile Loom

The machine is designed to weave various GSM sizes of Geo-Textile Matting and the major operations of this loom are carried out by pneumatic cylinders. It has a production capacity of 100 M (GeoTextile Mat 900GSM) per 8 hrs.
