India’s first Graphene Innovation Centre to come up in Kerala. The country’s first Graphene Innovation Centre at Thrissur is a joint venture of Digital University of Kerala, Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) and Tata Steel Limited. The project gave a major fillip for scientific research as well as the state’s industrial sector.

Graphene is expected to be the best electro-thermal conductor to replace silicon, and that change is expected to usher in the next generation of electronics. At the same time, it is hoped that Graphene-based technologies will be able to revolutionize energy production and medicine. With the realization of this project, Kerala is proud to be able to participate and contribute to the latest Graphene research in the world. At the same time, this initiative will give a new impetus to the scientific research and industrial sector of the state.

The Graphene Innovation Centre would help attract investors to develop Graphene products. Kerala’s human resources capital could be effectively exploited by the proposed Centre, which would help Kerala to emerge as a knowledge-based economy.
